Why won't my iPhone 1st gen charge? How do I fix it?

Every time I plug in the phone, 2 things happen.

1. The phone won't charge

2. The computer said that the USB isn't recognizable.

I need help! What do I do? And if you do, can you explain in detail how to fix it or a link on it?

When the dock connector malfunctions it stops taking charges. Up on such, the dock connector assembly replacement is the only solution. You can get a replacement part here and the replacement is fairly easy.
