only to get this straight - you try to power the ipone on but you can't use the "slide to unlock" - right ?
any droppings or fluid damages ?
i would start with a hard reset - press and hold the sleep and the home button until the iphone restarts - this should take around 10 seconds. if it works - good, if not disassemble the phone and reseat the digitizer connection. if that still won't work - the digitizer most likely died and you need to replace the front panel

Does the phone respond to any touch? Try shutting the phone down, and see if you can slide the "power" slider.
