Why is my fan running at full speed

I followed the instructions to open and clean the optical drive. I did neither replace the optical drive nor the hdd. After assembly the fan is running at full speed always, it's really loud. I tried to reseat the connectors of the thermal sensors and they seem to be ok.

I downloaded Macs Fan Control but I can't change the fan's speed.

Any ideas?

Update

Thanks for your answer.

I think it's not one of the temperature sensors which is failing but the control of the fan itself. Both apps report all temperature data but no fan speed.

Here is a screen shots of Macs Fan Control and of the app you suggested:

How about removing the fan control software you put on and instead run this app so you can see what the sensors are telling you: Temperature Gauge Pro.

I suspect you damaged something but without any clues what sensor is failing we are shooting in the dark. Post a screenshot so we can see too.

Update

Good! So we can rule out the thermal sensors. So carefully open the system up again and check your fan connector you may have not seated the connector properly. Be very careful here as this connector is very easy to pull off the logic board. Also check the fans wire you could have also pinched it.

Update 2

Did you forgot to connect the 2pin connector on the front next to the battery when you lower the drive tray down?

Hello Dan,

I did this already and I tried it again. I can't see any damage to the connector on the mainboard. I probed the 4 pins in the connector on the logic board with a toothpick. I pulled gently on the cables on the connector at the fan. Nothing is loose. When I press the fan connector carefully on the logic bard, it snaps in with a small clicking sound.

Nevertheless, the fan is full on and I can't slow it down using any of the apps mentioned before. I tried a third app, smcFanControl, but it does not run on the Mac Mini.
