regina, if the transmission fluid level in your Accord is low, you need to add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. Check on here how to check. I prefer to not check it with the engine running due to the dipstick location. Get the engine to operating temperature, park the vehicle on level ground, turn it off and then check.

The only correct way to check the transmission has the adequate amount of ATF in it is to leave the vehicle running. And most often its to actually put the vehicle in neutral. By shutting it off you will NOT get the correct reading.

chilafouxtravis, Not all automatics are checked with engine running. Directly from the 2001 Honda Accord manual. Automatic Transmission-Check the fluid level with the engine at normal operating temperature. Park the car on level ground.(( Shut off the engine)). Remove the dipstick (yellow loop)from the transmission and wipe it with a clean cloth. Insert the dipstick all the way into the transmission securely as shown in the illustration. Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level. It should be between the upper and lower marks
