What is the sensor that is spewing oil above the thermastat housing

Its above what i believe is the thermastat housing even thou they say the thermastat is connected to the water pump near the fire was . Also would the connector have a o ring or not.

Options

If this is a 3.1L its probably the oil pressure sender unit They have a tendency to leak . They require a special socket to replace. As long as you have the right socket its an easy fix
