4.0 Update Rendered my iPod Useless

16 month old unit, always worked flawlessly.

Here's a breakdown of what lead up to the problem:

1) Updated to 4.0 software

2) Sorted apps into folders (primary reason I wanted to update)

3) For a day or two, some apps worked okay, some would freeze up and then take me to the apple screen of death (white apple on black background)

4) Contacted Apple customer service. They said to do a restore.

5) Did restore, but in the middle of restoring it just 'stopped' and never re-started

6) Now, my Ipod is frozen at the screen of death. When I attempt to restart holding power/home buttons, it takes me right back to the same screen and NEVER does anything else.

Please help if you can. I don't want to be stuck with a $300 paperweight.

Try restoring from other computer.

I once stuck in the middle of restoring process (maybe just like you), after restoring with other computer, my iPod Touch 2gen works fine, also works fine on iOS 4.

I would suggest another computer also. Mine was stuck in the one color screen mode after attempting to remove 4.0 due to many issues.

I put it on another computer using the hold both buttons and then let go of home button awhile after plugging into a computer and it came out of the hung state. It still has 4.0 on it but now most of my apps have been updated to work with 4.0 which helps

Thanks. I finally got around to trying this, and it helped to a point. My system still shuts down fairly often, and it's a real problem trying to get it to restart again. Also, my apps still crash while trying to open more than half the time and the other half they shut down a few minutes into using them. could this be due to some issue with the 4.0 upgrade on my 2nd generation device? Ever since the update I have had nothing but problems. and feel that it is Apple's fault for not fully testing their 4.0 upgrade on the 2nd generation devices. I'm almost ready to just toss this thing in the trash!
