Trackpad and keyboard not responding

I must hold down Return button while cpu starts up and continue to press the Return after boot up to get the trackpad and keyboard to work., Why is that?

Sounds like a faulty part. Normally when the keyboard is failing you can hold a key to keep it from locking the OS up.

Check to see if the battery is swelling.

change the cable for the trackpad and it would work again..
