hello everyone recently i got a from my dad he sent it from Texas and now i need to downgrade the OS but wouldnt let me. brings out a dark background with Padlock. after making research i got to know it was locked by EFI and he wouldnt remember the code he used. i stumbled upon http://www.macefiunlock.com and http://phoneunlock.com saying they would do it remotely for some fee. now i'm scared i should end up been scammed. would you recommend any of the website or is there someone who can help me do it remotely?

EFI passwords can be removed but its a grey area in repair because by doing so you remove the password lock and if the item is stolen it becomes a crime.

If its actually your laptop its ok but requires proof.

Some people will do this no questions asked but its still a grey area.

How about you post the SPI ROM dump from U6100 and I'll email the person who owned it(email is stored in PLAINTEXT in the SPI ROM) and ask for the password? TL866A and adapter required.

Hint, most of the time the person on the other end of that email did not want to be separated from their computer.

JUST MY EXPERIENCE.

YOURS MAY VARY.

Just have your Dad email or snail mail a copy of the receipt and take that to any Apple store or Authorized service Provider and get this unlocked for free or a very small fee. The $195 fee is a rip off.

If he was the actual previous owner Apple will remove EFI lock if you can prove it was with his apple id info.
