Upgrade airport to ac possible?

Hello,

I just got a new router at home for my NAS disks, and was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my macbook pro 13" mid 2012 NON RETINA airport to get make use of the 5Ghz and ac functions of my new router.

Also have a mac mini 2012, question targets both Macs.

You don't need 802.11ac to access 5GHz. Your 802.11n MacBook can access it now.

The trick here is to setup the AP so you can discriminate between the 2.4 & 5.0 GHz AP's I append the frequency to my AP names so Name2-4 or Name5-0

Now when I look at the WiFi offerings on my MacBook Pro I will see the 5.0 MHz AP clearly.
