Cannot turn on Mac Mini (it was trying to upgrade to yosemite)

HI guys am stumped. I tried to get the free update to yosemite last night and just as the process started, the mac mini "died". after trying to reset the smc, i left it overnight, and it turned on again the next morning, resuming the update process but dying again 5 mins into it. same thing, stone cold for another day. what should i do?

Options

See if you can start up from the repair partition by holding down the R key on startup. Run Disk Utilities. The two issues may be unrelated. Remember, you are usually doing something when a machine fails.
