replacing isn't the problem - but it's a lot of work
you could use the outer case guide from the 4th generation in kombination with the teardownof the 5th generation.
getting an original outer case might be a problem. try to locate it on ebay. i#ve tried - but didn't find one in the short time.
it might be better to cover it up with a quality case
something like the leather case from macally (click)
it looks great, will surely fit and you won't have the trouble of tearing the ipod completely apart (in fact, if there are any "original" cases on ebay - the are most likely "chinese oem" (that means that they are fakes) - and after a few weeks of usage, they can look worse than yours might do now
