The battery is not being recognized and I can't boot into diagnostics.

I have an Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" and just recently had issues with it not recognizing the battery and it doesn't always boot up with just the charger plugged in. Also, when I get it to boot while plugged in and hold "D" while it boots it will not boot into Diagnostics.

What can I do to try to fix this or is this fixable?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hey Nick, are the fans and front light working?

by

The front light flashes 5 times and the it fades back on and goes off. It does not seem that the fans are running.

Jesus christ. Most helpful answer is replace board!!!

1) First thing to do is try a different battery. If this works, great. If this doesn't work...

2) Second thing to do is take your oscilloscope and measure pulsing on data line that communicates between battery indicator LED, battery, SMC, and ISL6259 on data line side of R5280 & R5281.

3) If it is NOT measuring properly, meaning, topping out at 3.42v with spikes down to 0v every now and then, unplug battery indicator LED from the board. See if it recognizes battery now.

4) If it doesn't work, now it's time to fix the board. But this is a 2011 model, so we don't fix these boards because Apple does it for free. The catch? They only do it for free if you have a GPU defect, which you're going to have to manufacture here. Sit this thing in the sun and run GPUtest on it until it has GPU artifacts, take to Apple, and they will fix for free. https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro...

strip the board to board and 1 slot of ram and see if it boots.

Need to narrow down the issues. Also if you have an ASD disk run it.
