Can my phone be repaired?

Hi,

I have an iPhone 5S with a broken screen. I purchased the tools to repair it and my engineer friend told me he could fix it because he's fixed tons before.

He gave it back to me telling me it won't work.

I brought it to the repair store and they told me whoever was fixing my phone lost few of the parts and broke few parts and won't be able to fix it anymore unless I bring it to iPhone specialist with parts.

So is there any way my iPhone 5S can fixed?

She said the part that is broken is a censor that detects the system and displays on the screen.

I only need it to get the pictures I have on that phone.
