What do you suggest I do?

I have a mid 2009 that I have had terrible luck with. Disk drive needed to be replace, then battery then charger. My warranty covered everything until the logicboard went and all of the sudden Apple could not do anything about it.

I have kept the computer in its box in my closet and it looks practically new. is it worth replacing the logicboard myself ? Same exact one mid 2009. Would it run extremely slow and unable to operate ?

Or do I sell it off for parts ?

I would like to try to fix it so that my son can play his games and go online to websites like ABC mouse and I don't have him touching my computer. Would the mid 2009 processor support current browsers? It there anothe logicboard that I can use to replace that will without much hassle ?

Apple said logicboard had water damage which I find it hard to believe since I live in California and it sat in my desk drawer. I turned it on and it wouldn't work anymore. It start up but shuts off. It never makes it to the home screen
