Battery doesn't always get charged.

Hi

The battery of my computer suddenly stopped working as it used to and now it only charges sporadically.

I thought the problem was the magsafe charger so I got a brand new one but the problem persisted. I decided to replace the magsafe DC-in power jack board and nothing happened either. I checked the status of the battery and it says it's normal. I also reset the SMC and calibrated the battery.

Take a few good pictures of your motherboard near the LCD connector, and near the battery.

Get the full information on the status of your battery. Download and run Coconut Battery and let us know your results. I could not tell if your Mag-Safe adapter was plugged in with the specs you gave.

How to Calibrate Your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air Battery

Start by ensuring your Mac is fully charged. Don't go by the battery menu item; instead, plug in the power adapter and charge your Mac until the light ring at the charging jack or the power adapter's light turn green, and the onscreen battery menu indicates a full charge.

Once the battery is fully charged, continue to run your Mac from the AC adapter for two hours. You can use your Mac during this time; just be sure the power adapter is plugged in and you're running off AC power and not the Mac's battery.

After two hours, unplug the AC power adapter from your Mac. Don't turn your Mac off; it will transition to battery power without any trouble. Continue to run the Mac from the battery until the onscreen low battery warning dialog appears. While you wait for the low battery warning, you can continue to use your Mac.

Once you see the onscreen low battery warning, save any work in progress, then continue to use your Mac until it automatically goes to sleep because of very low battery power. Don't perform any critical work after you see the low battery warning, because the Mac will go to sleep before long and with no other warning. Once your Mac goes to sleep, turn it off.

After waiting a minimum of 5 hours (longer is fine, but no less than 5 hours), connect the power adapter and fully charge your Mac. Your battery is now fully calibrated, and the internal battery processor will deliver accurate battery time remaining estimates.

OK.

I don't remember if it was plugged in when I got those specs. However, it was plugged in a while ago and it charged the battery at 100%. I wanted to calibrate it, so I left it plugged while I was working on it, but after 1 hour the charger light went off even when it was plugged. I left it connected anyway until another hour had passed. I unplugged it about 30 minutes ago and it still says the battery is at 100% although the battery indicator lights on the computer's side say otherwise (only 6 of them are lit).

I downloaded coconut battery and this is what it shows, both when connected to magsafe and when it isn't:

"Power adapter: No adapter found". Dis connect the adapter and let the battery run down for an hour. Then take your readings again. Report then connect the Mag-Safe and give it a minute and take reading again. Let's see if the adapter shows up.

Also, note that the battery status on the menu bar still shows 100% too, but there are only 4 dots on in the light indicator on the side of the computer.

when you say its not the magsafe connector, are you talking about trying a new charger? or replacing the magsafe port in the computer.

Both. I tried a new charger first and the problem wasn't solved. I replaced the port afterwards and nothing happened.

I updated my post and computer model. Sorry for not being clearer previously. Thanks for your help.
