Power adapter connected - green light on, but doesnt charge

Hey guys, I just bought a new mbp. I used the entire battery, so i plugged the power adapter to charge it. however, it doesnt charge the battery. The light is green, I can use the mbp connected to the energy, but actually i want to charge the mbp to use it without the power adapter. Whats wrong?

Thanks.

What is wrong is you are asking here instead of at Apple store. If this is a new machine and is not charging, they will fix it for free! No need to fix things yourself when they do it for free.

First thing's first, try a known good battery and see if that fixes the problem.

Secondly, if you see an X on the battery symbol, check R5281 & R5280 pullup resistors on SMC data line that talks to the battery. Put red probe of multimeter on ground, black probe on the data line side of each resistor and see if you get a measurement around 0.441 - this should be with NO POWER APPLIED of course.

Thirdly, see if it charges the battery when you unplug the battery indicator LED flex cable from the logic board, and try a new battery.

Fourthly, check resistance of R7021, R7022, continuity of the traces between R7021/R7022 and U7000, and vias between R7021/R7022 and R7020. Current sensing circuitry for the charger.

Fifthly, check resistance of R7051, R7052, check continuity of the traces between R7051/R7052 and U7000, and vias to R7050 from R7051/R7052. This is current sensing circuitry for the battery.

But again, since this is new, proper solution here is to toss this at the hipster douche at your nearest genius bar and make them fix this $@$*. They will swap out the logic board, battery, and BIL because they are stupid monkeys that can't fix anything, but this is their problem - not yours - because it is in warranty.

Hi louis,

I tested resistors and it campes with:

R5281=1.985

R5280=1.984

R7021=10.1

R7022=10.1

R7051=2.3

R7052=0

Whats the next step? :)

Thanks!!!
