water at the bottom of ge cafe regrigerator bin

I have GE Cafe refrigerator. Once in a while I find water at the bottom of the bin on fridge side. I take out the bin and let it defrost it over couple of days and it works. What could be the cause of this?

Clogged or Freezing Defrost Drain

How it Works:

If the refrigerator has defrost drain problems it's possible that the refrigerator has a clogged or freezing defrost drain. If the defrost drain freezes the defrost water will overflow the drain and drip down to the bottom of the compartment. Thaw any ice that is clogging the drain and make sure the drain is clear consider using an aftermarket drain heater to help prevent freezing of the drain in the future.

Drain Strap

How it Works:

If the defrost drain freezes the drain strap may have fallen off or deteriorated. Although not common, some refrigerators are designed to have a small copper or aluminum strap which is attached to the defrost heater and extends partway down into the defrost drain. When the defrost heater turns on, some heat is conducted through the strap in order to melt away any ice that may have built up in the defrost drain. The drain strap should be in place to prevent the drain from freezing.

Drain Heater

To see parts for your refrigerator, you need to enter your model number on the right. The system will then display parts that are associated with your refrigerator.

How it Works:

For refrigerator defrost drain problems check the drain heater to make sure it's working properly. If the drain heater is burned out or has come out of place the drain tube might freeze over.

Know it - use a flash light, remove the kick plate and look under your machine for the drain evaporator pan.
