Front panel glass shattered Suction cup cant open the phone.

I'm trying to replace the front panel of my iPhone 3g but the glass is shattered all around the home button so the suction cup cant get a grip at all. Is there another way to get the phone open? Would maybe some glue help hold it together long enough to open it up?

one tiny suggestion as a future reference - i opened a few 3g and never used a suction cap to do that.

the easiest way was in my case was the small blade of a swiss army knife from victorinox - the tiny ones (classic series 58mm) are perfect to do that - the small 84mm is also ok, but the classic works best. the perfect spot is "under the home button" - use it as a lever and the front panel lifts smoothly up
