Replacement volume control buttons don't work

After putting new volume buttons in they no longer work, they don't click when pressed and just feel loose... am I missing something in the reassembly? Don't see anything about any specific reinsertion.

Hi Neil, it is possible that the part itself is faulty, or, you haven't lined up the part correctly on the metal plates, if they aren't lined up, then they won't click correctly, or if you have also replaced the physical button itself and not the flex, they will usually be missing the circular metal discs inside the button itself.
