Unique Black Screen Problem

Hello people,

This is probably the first time I'm putting down a question. This is ideally because I have come across an issue which is absolutely weird and never heard of.

My MBP screen simply blacked out when I tried switching it on this morning. I could hear the chime of the boot up, but, I couldn't see anything. I tried troubleshooting the issue with different resets using different key combinations at boot up, safe mode boot up option and what not, but nothing worked.

On careful observation I witnessed the weird part. The moment some bright light/torch is flashed at the branding logo on the laptop lid, I can see the content on the center part (in the apple cutout shape) of the laptop screen inside. To be more precise, I set my iPhone flash on the laptop lid & tried booting up the system. I could now see the apple boot up logo, user name and password box, on entering the password I could see my desktop.

The problem is I could only see the dull content in the center within the sahape of the branding logo on the lid.

Not really that unique. You backlight has failed. There could be plenty of reasons for that, none of them very pleasant. Failed LCD, failed backlight driver, etc. all point toward some component level repair. Take a look at this question as well as many more on here.

See if your machine will work with an external monitor. I'm pretty sure it will.

Thanks.

@oldturkey03 the article does appears to be a fix for my problem but I need to be quiet sure if that is exactly the resolution to the issue we have at hand here.

@mayer machine ofcourse works with an external monitor.

Open bottom and 99% chance some liquid got on it. Backlight circuitry is on the edge of the machine that the fan shoots liquid into.

Freaking !&&*.. Oh yes.. There were a few tiny droplets of water when I opened up the laptop..!!!

What would you recommend I should do.. Is there a way to fix this backlight circuitry?

Can you specifically point out where exactly is this circuitry in the machine?

Take picture of area near LCD connector, unplug LCD from computer, and confirm for me that your motherboard part number is 820-2936.
