Overheating - I think?

My imac keeps on turning itself off randomly, and then I have to unplug it for a least 10 mins - yeah even though the mac is off - and plug it back in just so it can stay on for 5 mins and do it all over again.

I've discovered if I don't unplug it, it just wont turn on again at all until I do - so my guess it's a mac safely feature to stop it frying?

I have been told to just take it apart and give it a hoover out, but I don't know where to even start taking it apart and I really don't want to break anything. Any help would be great!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Here is a guide how to take the computer apart. I also recommend a good cleanout and maybe the renewal of the thermal paste under the heatsink.

Before you start install iStat Pro to monitor themperatures.

When you got the machine open, look for bulging caps on the logicboard and power supply. Good site about the caps problem here.
