Won't turn on, and has that burned circuit smell!

One second it was working, and the next it was off with that funny burning smell coming from the corner where the MagSafe connects. I unplugged the AC adapter and pressed the power button again, and this time I saw a tiny bit of smoke from that corner too! My AC adapter works fine on another MacBook. I have not yet disassembled the computer to check the damage, but could my main board be damaged in addition to the left side IO board? I want to order the left IO board to fix it, but not if the main logic board is fried as well. Does anyone know if the logic board is isolated from some (obviously) catastrophic failure of the left IO board?

Hi, Does the computer work on battery power? If so since the I/O is a separate board you may be correct in your diagnosis. I would open the computer up and look for visible damage first. You might also give the rest of the computer a "sniff" test. Good luck. Ralph

*UPDATE*

WOO HOO! It worked! and I'm typing on it right now. There was simply a chip on the left IO board that was obviously burned and charred. It didn't appear that any other components were affected. I did the swap with a new IO board along with the instructions, and it worked like a charm! VERY happy. I'll include a picture of the bad board.

Unfortunately it does not work on battery power alone, and in fact, the one time I tried with just the battery, it heated up that left IO area and let out a puff of smoke from around the left side USB port. I've already ordered the IO board and I'm just waiting on it and the tools to arrive so I can assess the damage. Crossing my fingers that it didn't blow the main board too.
