If you store your contacts on your SIM, there is no way to retrieve them unless by chance your carrier has a SIM Backup service and you have back them up to it. If you keep them on your phone, than more than likely they are added to the Gmail (or whatever email you use) account that you use to get apps from the Play Store. Try resyncing your contacts from the "Accounts & Sync" menu in Settings. If they haven't been being added to your Gmail, and have been being stored on your phone, than the only way to retrieve them is via a backup of your contacts list. A lot of Androids will sync backups OTA (Over the Air) when you are connected to WiFi. If one of these methods don't work, than the only thing you have left is to try and recover them with 3rd Party Recovery Software. If you have to recover them, don't write anything else to the disk, including taking photos, installing/updating apps, and MMS Messages (If Possible, We have no control over what our friends send us), as all of these will write to the disk and potentially overwrite the blocks that were previously allocated for your contacts list. I would suggest using EaseUS

MobiSaver for Android (http://www.easeus.com/android-data-recov...). I have used most of their software, and the recovery software works really good. Here is a how to list for using the software (http://www.easeus.com/android-data-recov...). There is a free version that should work for you, but it only allows you to retrieve one file, so you need to make sure it is the file you need. Your contacts should be stored as "Contacts.db". The file path should be "data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts.db" If you retrieve a file and it turns out to be the wrong one, use another computer so you can get another file retrieval.
