2007, MacBook Pro A1226 & Cooling issues.

Hello,

I'm new to this community. I was given a Macbook Pro as a gift, that I'm trying to fix up for my daughter.

I updated RAM to 6 and replaced the HD with a SSD 240 GB Kingston HD.

The MBP runs really fast, but when I try and play videos, the system overheats and stops working; the video starts to shutter, and the system seizes up!' the fans never come on to remove the heat. I'm using a Targus heat sink type pad.

I downloaded a program that was supposed to be free, but does not work.

I'm running SL OS X updated.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Matt

You'll need to try to find an older version of the program you have (if they made one that works with Snow Leapord). Or, you'll need to find another program that will allow you to see the sensors. You could try contacting Matt who makes Temperture Gauge Pro for his older version which should work for you.

OK, you got something to see the thermal sensor and the fans RPM. Post a screen shot here for us to see when the system is running hot, but hasn't overheated fully.

Depending on what you discover you'll either need to clean the system of the dust buildup, replace the fan unit and/or clean & replace the thermal paste on the CPU's heat sink.
