Is it possible to use a SSD instead of my optical drive?

MacBook Pro unibody early 2009

The question is. When I remove the optical drive. Will a SSD 2,5" fits on that place? Can I use a solit state disk on the place from my optical drive.

I want to use an extra SSD for OSX and stay using my harddisk for data. I never use CD's/DVD anymore so, that would be a great solution.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Your MacBook Pro should be one of these two models:

  • MacBook Pro 17-inch 2.66GHz (MB604LL/A) Intel Core 2 Duo
  • MacBook Pro 17-inch 2.93GHz (CTO) Intel Core 2 Duo

What you need is called an Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure

I can't tell if you need the 9.5 mm or the 12.7 mm till you confirm your model. Even if I can't, iFixit parts will know. Just ask them here:http://www.ifixit.com/Info/contact
