How is the ipad air's display different from laptops?

I have consistently encountered trouble with nausea when viewing modern LED-backlit notebook displays (including any retina macbook/macbook pro, surface pro, xps 13 with qhd display). However, I find my iPad air to be extremely comfortable. So, my question is--what is it about the iPad air's display construction that differs from laptops? For example--does it have different LEDs? Does it diffuse light differently?

Hopefully your insights can help me figure out what the culprit might be in some of these troublesome notebook displays.

Thanks.
