Serial number on MacBook points out wrong model.

Hi,

I'm working on a 17" inch MacBook Pro Unibody. When I look up the serial number, or go to the "About this Mac" window it says the mac is a "MacBook Pro "Core i5" 2.4 15" Mid-2010".

Should I just assume it is the mid-2010 17" unibody? Are all the 17" unibodies the same to work on? The problem is I won't get to physically take the computer apart until after I've ordered the proper LVDS cable.

Thanks.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Are you stating the About This Mac is telling you you have a 15" model yet you know for sure this is a 17" model which is why you are questioning what it states?

What is the serial number and are you getting it from "about this Mac", or out of the battery compartment. Can you look at both?

They're both the same and lead to the same 15" mid-2010 model.

What makes you think it is a 17" when the evidence says otherwise?

@Mayer - I think he's confused on the different sizes of the system he has. As he has both 15" and 17" intermixed in is Q.
