Generally it's a defect in the screen itself, and there's not much that can be done besides replace it. I suppose there's a slight chance it's the video cable, however I don't recall an example of that. Does the line disappear when you move the screen back and forth, or is it permanent?
I'd connect the laptop to an external display, and just verify that the line does not appear on the external display.
