Few pointers:

  • Could be that the cable you are using to connect to your computer is not a data cable. Try a cable that you had previously used to transfer data between that phone and a computer.
  • Some devices require their drivers to be installed, for them to be recognized by the computer.

If you are using a Windows OS then you need the correct usb driver for your device which you should be able to get from samsung' s website. If you already have the correct usb driver installed then you may want to try a different usb cable. I have had a similar problem and I found that two wires in the usb cable needed resoldered to the micro usb, as they had come loose. I resoldered the two wires and the computer recognized the phone right away. If a known working cable still doesn't allow your PC to recognize the device then you may need to possibly clean the usb port on the phone or replace it. Hope this helps.
