Touchpad clicks but doesn't move

The touchpad on my Macbook Pro 13" mid-2009 stopped working. I replaced the touchpad with another one and the click began to work, however I cannot move the cursor. Is there anything I can do try to do in order to fix this, or can I conclude it is a logic board problem? Let me know, thanks!

Your battery maybe bulging out in the middle which was why your click plate was not working to start with. I would pull the battery and carefully check it.

At this point you either didn't seat the ribbon cable into the connector on the logic board correctly or you damaged the ribbon cable. Take a good tight picture of the ribbon connector on the logic board as well as the ribbon so we can see things and post it here.
