Can I salvage the computer with water damage?

I have a Macbook pro 15" model A1286. It's less than a year old with severe water damage. It will not power up. It's been opened, fully aired out and dried. I pulled the hard drive and can access all the data luckily. When I plug the charger to it, there is a very dim green light instead of the strong green or orange light when attached. May it just need a new battery? Any advice?

Did you check thoroughly for corrosion and component damage? See if there are any capacitors or chips broken or corroded. I would then remove the battery and see if the unit will power up. If all is good at this point you could try a new battery and see if it will charge. I must confess based on your description of severe water damage I don't have much hope of your being able to repair this unit for a reasonable cost but give it a try. At this point you have nothing to lose and a computer to gain. If the repairs fail I would sell it as is without warranty and apply what I got to a replacement unit. Good luck and let us know how its going as we may be able to fine tune repair help with more info. I hope this guide is for your unit. Ralph
