So after doing what you said (clean with IPA), the screen still flickers on for a split second. If I shine a torch on it then its visible that the lcd and touchscreen work, just the backlight doesn't. Is there anything I could check on the motherboard to fix this?

Clean the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol 90% using a toothbrush to remove corrosion on the motherboard circuits.
If you are unable to remove the corosion, there is nothing to do, the motherboard is no more working ...
