My Lenovo PC has no onboard sound

My on board sound died. I tried all methods to regain sound to no avail. This is second Lenovo I've had with this problem. The first one was right out of the box so it went back and I bought a better model. The only thing I found on a system self check of the mobo said Chipset fail./ Can I buy a sound card and get sound or do I need to get a new mobo

Your motherboard has a PCI slot so you can always plug in a new soundcard. (Don’t buy an expensive one, they are for audio developers)

But have you tried the audio plugs at the back as well? (green one) It might just be that the cable to the front headphone mount is loose.

Also: Try to update your audio driver from the motherboard manufacturer’s site. (Use speccy to find out what motherboard you have)

I did buy a Creative Sound Blaster card with good results. Thanks for the tips.
