no power up it just beeps until I hold down power botton

When I attempt to power up it just delays than clicks until I force the power off by holding the power key. It was intermittent and got worse. It now won't power up even after 20 tries.I have pulled the battery and tried just the power supply. I have tried just the battery. I have tried to hit the function keys. I have tried to hold the CTRL key all to no avail.
