Strange intermittent problem - Power supply?
I have a very strange problem with my 24" iMac EMC 2134 (Mid 2007). If I leave it on it runs just fine. If I let it get real hot in the room (above 80°F for about an hour) it will boot up and run just fine. On the other hand if I shut it down and try to start it up the next morning, it gets about half of the start up chime and stops. No further sound, no spinning drives or fans, no screen, nothing.
So I bought a replacement 27" iMac and managed to migrate all my stuff to the new one by putting it in a warm room until it would start and then just left it powered up and prevented it from going to sleep until it was all finished, but would still like to see if I can get this one back up and running to give to a relative if I can.
So, I opened it up, and of course it started up fine. This morning I tried to start it again and it would not start. I plug it in and get the first LED on. Press the power button, and the LED's 2 and 3 come on momentarily with the "half chime" and then ALL three of them go back off. Even though it's still plugged in even the first light goes off. No pressing and holding or momentary pressing of the power button does anything and it won't change. If I unplug it's AC cord and plug it back in, LED #1 comes back on.
Is this a good question?
