Upgrade a late 2008 unibody 15'' from 2.4GHz to 2.66Ghz

For context, my logic board died (overheated after installing a new hard drive). It was a 2.4Ghz version of late 2008 unibody 15'' Macbook Pro.

I finally decided to repair it as you can find logic board for about $250 on ebay now and the one I'm looking at is a 2.66GHz logic board. It really looks exactly the same, from a shape a connector stand point so I was wondering if I could just "upgrade" to this new logic board.

Thanks

Antony,

It will depend on the specifics of the 2.66 GHz logic board. Several MacBook Pro models since Late 2008 were available with a 2.66 GHz processor. If the logic board you are looking at is for an early 2009 MacBook Pro 15" (Model MB470*/A), it should be compatible. Any other model, however, will not be.

Good luck!

Kevin
