Won't boot up but fan keeps going

Hi. My iMac G5's been ultra reliable but just froze today then wouldn't allow me to do anything at all - fan started being really loud as well. So I turned off and now when I hit the power on button, it won't boot up at all, just a blank screen and then, if I wait a couple of minutes, the fan turns on full blast. Any clues? I'm not getting as far as the apple logo even...

Thanks for comments. The fan spins at high speed until you switch off - and you can use the normal on/off switch for this. I have taken the back off and looked at the LED diagnostic lights. LEDs 1 and 2 come on as they should but LED 3 remains completely unlit. The capacitors don't seem to be leaking or bulging - I've looked at the sample pics on the web and it might not be this(??). The Apple support guides are of limited use as the symptoms aren't exactly the same as any of their scenarios. Any other sugegstions gratefully received. Thanks

The iMac G5 is notorious for bad capacitors. I'm going to bet on that. It isn't worth fixing.

The reason I say this is it's PPC and these get so hot that along with Capacitor Plague they don't last. Even with non affected caps, this thing still kills caps.

And the screens fail too, and are TDMS. You have to use Apple's screens on these iMacs. There's no way around it, and they all fail. This thing is a money pit.

My advice is to sell it as-is and get a Intel iMac. Those things are LVDS swappable and just need a Apple EDID injector to fix if the screen ever goes bad on those. On these, you can't. TDMS is brand specific.
