How do I open the laptop up to upgrade it?

My mum has asked me to upgrade her current laptop (which is an Asus X5DC running Windows 7) from 3GB Ram to 4GB to make it faster. When I went to try and upgrade it, it was difficult since there was no separate covers and it looks like the main cover is attached in one. So I'm kinda stuck in a flunk since I don't want to break it. Hope someone can help!
