Can I use the Top Case from A1226 or A1220

I have a MAcbook Pro that needs a new keyboard and Top Case. Does anyone know for sure if I can replace he whole assembly on the A1211 MAcbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33 with a top case assembly from one of the later Core 2 Duo models? I saw in another answer that the keyboards are not interchangeable, but I wonder about the whole assembly.

THere seem to be a lot more 1260 top cases available than 1211

You need Apple part #922-7909. It will work on the 2.16 & 2.33 Core 2 Duo machines. It would be best to wait till tomorrow for Ben Eisenman of iFixit, to answer this. He's the most knowledgeable parts man I know of.

After the A1211 machine, Apple relocated the upper case connector on the logic board about 2". The ribbon cable on A1226 or A1260 upper cases therefore will not reach and are not compatible.

Your best bet is to search Google for the Apple part number Mayer gave you.

Sorry!

Hi, If your original ribbon is intact you can move it to the new topcase. replacing the non fitting ribbon cable. I am attempting this now, will let you know how it turns out.

Update

Hi,

Dave again. I did what I said, removed the ribbon from the 2.33 and moved it over the the 2.4 replacement topcase, then installed the 2.4 topcase with modified ribbon on my 2.33, and it is working fine! You may have to glue the ribbon down depending on how much tack is left.

As long as your ribbon cable wasn't the problem, it is trivial to switch them out.
