Trying to use and external microphone.

The internal Mic in my Macbook is broken. When I install an external Mic, it is recognized in the sound panel, but the system doesn't receive any input from the mic and I've tried several.

I would make sure that under System Pref, Sound, Input and Line In are selected which is obvious you checked that. How are you attaching the microphone? Is it a USB mike, through a mixer via the XLR ports, does the mike require a 9 volt battery if you don't have a USB or FireWire interface with phantom power? Are you attaching the mike through the audio port via a 1/8 inch jack cable?

Post your specs and maybe someone here can figure out a solution to get the MacBook to recognise the mike.

It's just a standard non power mic attached to the 1/8 audio in jack. I have three USB ports and with firwire and the headphone in/mic in ports.

People have suggested using a USB mic instead.

Thanks.
