No display output after water drop

Hello,

I dropped my iPhone into the water few days ago. The backlight started to flicker and then red screen with some red lines appeared. I immediately put it into the DFU, because I cannot turn it off. After 2 hours I came home and disconnected battery and display from the board. I tried to dry my iPhone with tissues and then I left it opened for 2 days. After 2 days I bought IPA, because I saw some small oxidation near display connector (white covered smd resistors). I cleaned it with IPA 99%, let it dry for an hour and tried to turn it on. I turned it on, it showed Apple logo, but backlight flickered just like after water drop and then suddenly screen went black. I disconnected battery and let it sit another day and now, I connected battery, display and connected it to the computer. Display shows nothing, but computer can see and sync iPhone.

Does anyone has advice what can it be? Can it be just more oxidation on the back side of the motherboard or it is burned component on board? I don't have another iPhone 6 display to test it. I know about coil on iPhone 5, but I don't see any similar problem with iPhone 6 on the internet. I have soldering skills (smd, not BGA - I have hotair smd rework station). Is the schematic for iPhone 6 motherboard available somewhere? I think my last option will be to do the complete cleaning with IPA in a tank.

Thank you.

Juraj, you need to approach this like any other submersion. First thing to do is to no longer try to start or charge your iPhone. Remove the battery, and disassemble is right down to the logic board . Clean everything with isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and a soft brush, including all connectors and cable ends. Use this guide to see how to clean it. It was written for a 3G but all the points are pertinent to your phone as well. Check for any burned or missing components. You may have to repeat this step a couple of times. Once it is cleaned, reassemble it and replace the battery, then reevaluate for any real damage. It is possible that this is caused by a failed LCD backlight or shorted out filters etc. on the logicboard. I'd start with a new display since that is a bit easier to diagnose. Water damage is the hardest to diagnose and thus very difficult to repair. Virtually any part may have failed. Until properly cleaned anything will only be a guess, and the longer you wait the more corroded it will get. Hope this helps, good luck

I have done it before writing, but it shows nothing on screen. What chip and what capacitors are used for backlight and video output for internal display? I think something has burned. iTunes can discover my iPhone.

Of course you cleaned it properly? You removed the EMI shields to clean it properly? Did you find any missing or burned SMD components?
