Where is data stored?

New battery leaked inside device. Does this model have a hard drive or is it a flash type device? Is there any way to retrieve the data if the motherboard is placed inside another device of the same model?

User has critical information stored on this device and the hard drive of the computer with backed up data died the same weekend.

old palm's were ram based devices - if the battery is empty and you didn't replace it fast - the memory will be erased

so the only chance to retrieve the data was the dead hard drive
