Why does my iMac G4 freeze up?

17 in. iMac G4 1.25 ghz, fresh hard drive, new os installed via fire wire target mode no issues, but while running OS 10.4.11, it freezes or locks up, areas I looked at, thermal past for heat sink replaced, reset pram, hit reset button next to airport card and case fan works, it is running 2 gigs of ram and a new 320 gb hdd. Once every area I mentioned was covered, it ran 20 min before freezing, any ideas? thanks.

Ok, its a iMac G4 1.25 ghz, 17 in. know as a FP with 2.0 usb model number M9168LL/A. one area I forgot to mention, when in fire wire-target mode I loaded OSX 10.4.11, a copy of another Apple G4 hard drive, this took 2hrs. 30 min., no crash during this procedure, guess this means the hard drive is ok, now I wonder what is not working while in fire-wire target mode? Thanks.
