HP Pavilion dv6910ea laptop is hot and loud: how do I take it apart?

I bought this laptop second hand, and since purchase it has run very loud and hot all the time. It has also developed a rattle around the heatsint and fan which makes me suspicious of a lose screw.

I've never taken a laptop apart before, but think it might be necessary to get inside to remove the rattle and give the fan and heatsink a really good clean. Is this hard, and can anyone offer me any advice on doing this?

Thanks,

Chosen Solution

I havent disassembled this particular HP, but the one I have opened have been quite straight forward.

  1. Remove battery
  2. Undo all the screws at the bottom
  3. Look for screws on the side
  4. Look once more for screws in places
  5. Try to open
  6. Remind yourself not to use force
  7. Look for point where it hangs, look after screws or clips
  8. Decide to use force
  9. break a clip
  10. put back together

If you are patient it is very possible to avoid step 8 and 9!

Have fun!

If you don't find a lose screw the rattle is probably from the fan itself.
