a little further now with my g5 17''

I had a bad cap under my power supply, which is now fixed.

I still can't get pass the grey screen with the apple logo.

I did the command,option,shift,delete trick and i got a folder with a flashing question mark(?)and that 2 faces thing.

can anybody tell me what's going on now?

The question mark on start up means it can't find a system folder. It does not mean the hard drive is bad. The hard drive may have connection problems or a corrupted system, or the drive could be bad. Start up from a system installation disk, go to the second page, pull down menu and go to Utilities-> Disk Utliity and see if you can repair the drive. Then try restarting.
