Diagnosing+Repairing a Water-Damaged Samsung Galaxy S3
Got a parts/repair L710 off eBay. I can access Recovery Mode and Download Mode and even flashed Clockwork Mod 6.0.4.4 on it.
It was a parts/repair unit because the glasstop does not respond to touches or swipes anywhere on the screen, whether in portrait or landscape mode. The phone was given a master reset and is currently stuck on the first initialization screen prompting the user to choose a language. There are no cracks on the glasstop at all.
I opened up the phone to reseat the LCD/touchscreen connector. It did not restore functionality.
The liquid-detection strip on the battery is completely red. There's also some white crust around the LCD circuitry and around the charging port.
While I wait for another battery and perhaps another parts unit, I'm wondering about giving the **LCD** an ultrasonic cleaning. I know I've read and seen logic board cleanings, but I haven't seen anyone clean an LCD. I am assuming a liquid like isopropyl alcohol and Branson's Ultrasonic Cleaner will not inflict LCD damage. I am also assuming the logic board is OK, but would still like to give it a good cleaning. I am also assuming the glasstop is actually functional.
Thanks for reading!
Is this a good question?
