Why does keyboard & mouse freeze up with 10.10.3?

iMac (24-inch Mid 2007) 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Version 10.10.3

Keyboard and mouse freeze during normal use with 10.10.3. I see online that the operating system is buggy and may be related to the equipment failure. I turn off the computer and turn it on again to obtain use of the keyboard and mouse.

Should I wait for Apple's repair update to the software OR plan on repairing the hardware OR purchase a yet newer version keyboard and mouse??

switched usb ports; not the problem; still freezes

switched to iMac G4 keyboard & mouse; not the problem; still freezes

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

From what you are describing I think you have a basic maintenance issue here or your HD is starting to fail.

To start with I would check the systems firmware. Follow this Apple TN: EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs. Make sure you have the newest.

The next thing I would do here is make sure you have about 1/4 to 1/3 of your hard drive free. Get a good house cleaning app like this one: Disk Doctor.

If you don't have a second bootable drive I would create one (USB thumb drive will do). Then using it to boot up the system run Disk Utility to see if you have any error on your internal drive. You may want to make a good backup of anything important before altering your drive (just in case). Lastly, I would defrag the drive using a good disk drive tool like this one: Drive Genius 4.

I have the same problem too and I tried to do what Mr. Dan suggested but...

I also tried to contact Apple support but nobody answer to my question...

What should I do? Just give up? and use my imac only when it is not freezes?

So frustrated...

Did you clean your HD out as I described? Also is your keyboard & mouse USB connected or Bluetooth?

Your system still has some life left its just a matter of effort here. Just like cars you have to feed them TLC to get the most out of them. Computers are no different no matter who's or what OS you have.

Did you get a case number? If not they won't be calling you back. If you did, you'll need to call them back.

Hi Dan... what I did was to format HD again but still freeze. Now I download the Disk Doctor. I use usb keyboard and mouse.

I tried to call them before but they asked me to take my computer to an authorized technical.

Is there any way to check if there is some hardware problem?

by

@Liz - Sadly, I think you have a bad HD drive. Reformatting and re-installing the OS on the drive will also remove the old log & cache files so Disk Doctor won't help you here. While switching out a drive is not that difficult, it does require the needed tools and patience. Are you up to it? If not I think bringing your system to someone who is skilled in doing it would be best. Make sure they are Apple authorized.
