These guys have given you some great advice. And I know that answering a question with a question is not cool, but.

Why did you put a toilet phone into a bag of goldfish? I have to know...

by

they do and my phone has been through allot so i thought it could survive a toilet. the next day i put my phone at the bottom of my track and field bag (that was the bag that had goldfish and water) after a few minutes the phone turned off.

themaniac, "goldfish crackers and water" quite a concoction :-)I am sure it left a sticky residue. The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart the phone. This may further damage your phone. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using this guide Then clean it with +90% isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. While you clean your board, check for any obvious damage, like burned or missing components etc. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate." In your case you may just have to replace the lightning connector, use this guide to accomplish that.

thank you so much for the response, what should i use to help clean the inside with the isopropyl?

by

Use a soft brush and place the parts in a container filled with isopropyl alcohol. Then use the brush to clean remove the parts from the alcohol and let air dry. You may have to repeat that a couple of times. You may also want to remove any EMI shield.

by

I've been taking it apart but i can't get the SIM card out

by

do you think i could just dip my entire phone in the isopropyl?

by

nope, you do have to take it apart. There are to many small crevices, as well as connectors etc, that will not get cleaned if you do not disassemble it.

When a phone comes in contact with water it is best to disassemble as soon as possible and remove the battery. Next you should clean the logic board and other parts such as cable connections with 90 percent or higher isopropyl alcohol and a soft bristle brush such as a toothbrush. This helps remove minerals that are left behind when water dries. If not cleaned the minerals may lead to corrosion and possibly shorting of electrical components. It will remove the sticky residue as well. If the battery came in contact with water it may need replaced. After cleaning with isopropyl alcohol try reassembling the phone and test if it powers on and functions correctly. There are many instructional guides on YouTube that can show you how to clean a phone with isopropyl alcohol. Good luck and let's us know if it fixes the issue or if you need more help.
