1/3 left side of touch screen not working even with replaced digitizer

Hi all,

I recently found the 1/3 side of my iPhone 3G touch screen not working. The 2/3's on the right side still work perfectly. It's like a perfect line vertically down separating the working side with the non-working side.

As a result, I have restored the device and replaced the digitizer thinking that was the most obvious problem. Still no luck, the exact same area of the touch screen doesn't work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

The digitizer uses a grid of capacitative sensors, with each row and column getting its own wire on the flex connector -- so any problem with the sensor or connection can cause an entire set of rows and/or columns to die.

If you already tried replacing the digitizer, take it apart again, and look at the connector for the touch screen on the main board with a magnifying glass -- if you can find some dust to clean off of it, that might fix it (as might the act of taking it apart and reassembling it). Otherwise, by process of elimination, it's either a damaged connector or a broken drive circuit -- either way, you'd have to replace the main board to fix it.
