This can be the evidence of a few things, is your iPod working fine aside from the audio? It syncs, charges, and you can interact with it?

With no sound, here's a good troubleshooting system:

  1. check the iPod with another pair of headphones or speakers, just to make sure that your first ones aren't the problem.
  2. replace the headphone jack assembly (there are different assembly for the 80/120/thin 160 GB and the thick 160 GB, which is why it's good to know more information about your iPod).
  3. If replacing the headphone jack doesn't solve the problem, all signs point to the logic board.
